My Story
Carb Diem is a microbakery nestled in the heart of Noordhoek, Cape Town, specializing in handcrafted sourdough breads and delicious pastries. My passion for artisanal baking started in my Grandma’s kitchen back home in Germany. I grew up watching three generations of women use traditional methods and locally sourced ingredients to create the delicious, nourishing food! In my family, baking and sharing bread was the ultimate love language.This (early) love of baking was later nurtured through multiple courses all over the world, including the renowned Ballymaloe cookery school. Taking inspiration from the different baking traditions I discovered on my travels, I was inspired to set up Carb Diem with a commitment to crafting exceptional quality and taste with every loaf and treat I make. I believe in the power of handcrafted food to bring people together. Carb Diem is about creating products to nourish the body, mind and soul of my community.
